Tyler James Goss

Tyler James Goss was born on March 12, 1998 in Rapid City, SD to Kevin Goss and Susan Pechous (Grubl). He was called to his final round-up July 31, 2014 near Alzeda, MT as a result of an automobile accident.

The effect he had on his friends and family was profound. He stood up to bullies and comforted the bullied. He would stand for no one to be picked on. He was a constant pillar of support for both his friends and his family, making sure everyone was taken care of. He was a protector to the core.

Tyler was a proud member of the Belle Fourche High School football team. He loved the sport and dreamed of one day playing for the University of Texas. He was very active in 4-H, particularly in showing his dog, Sassy, and shooting sport events. He placed 2nd in the state 4-H archery competition.

With such precise aim and a strong love of hunting, there was a danger to some of the wildlife around him. He especially loved deer, pheasant, turkey and antelope hunting.

When he wasn’t hunting them, Tyler adored animals. He had a special connection with them; it was if they instinctively trusted him. He was in the process of training his horse, Buckshot.

His pride and joy was his car, a 1974 Ford Ranchero. Everyone knew when Tyler arrived.

Tyler had no greater love than his family, the very center of his life. Whether swimming with his mom, playing games with his grandma, 4-wheeling with his grandpa, fishing with his step-dad or helping his dad with his woodworking, Tyler made sure his family came first and foremost. His gentleness and sensitivity was a rare gift. There is a hole in many hearts, one that will never be filled, though Tyler would wish for us to celebrate life.

His blue eyes sparkled brightly and reminded all who saw him that there is still kindness and goodness in the world. As a family friend put it, “Tyler was a boy in age, but a man in character and wisdom.”

Survivors include his father, Kevin (Jennifer) Goss of Belle Fourche; his mother, Susan (Ron) Grubl of Sturgis; 3 sisters, Melisa Goss of Sioux Falls, Samantha (Sam) Bestgen of Rapid City and Veronica Grubl of Sturgis; 3 step brothers, Wyatt Huntley of Sheridan, WY, Kyle (Heidi) Huntley of Rapid City and Jonathan Prater of Belle Fourche; 2 step sisters, Andrea (John) Spradling of Alvin, TX and Justeen Prater of Shelbyville, TX; maternal grandparents, Judy and Ray Koster of Piedmont, Ray and Brigette Pechous of Deadwood, Helen Benning of Oakland, WA and Ramon Grubl of Sturgis; paternal grandparents, Ed and DeEtte Goss of Belle Fourche; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his great grandparents, Grandpa and Grandma Pappy.

Visitation was Noon to 7:00 PM, Monday, August 4th at Kline Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche with the family present from 5 PM to 7 PM.

Funeral services were held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 5th at the Belle Fourche Area Community Center Gymnasium with the Reverend Paul Howard officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Tyler Goss Memorial Fund at Pioneer Bank and Trust.
