Bonita Rae “Byrde” Berndt, 57 of Nisland died Monday, February 20, 2012 at her home in Nisland.
Bonita Rae, or to those that knew her as Byrde, was born April 4, 1954 in Buffalo, South Dakota to Wallis and Arlene (Anderson) Cornella.
She married Daniel Berndt on June 26, 2010. Byrde was known for her baking and cooking and has worked the last 18 years in various bakeries. She loved to make cakes for all occasions, especially wedding cakes. Byrde started the Helping Hands Picnic and has been instrumental in making this a success for the past eleven years.
She enjoyed fishing, gardening, sewing and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. Byrde was a kind and generous person, always thinking of others. Although her family will miss her dearly, so will all of the people that were touched by her light.
She is survived by her husband, Dan Berndt of Nisland; sons, Keanen Vice of Kunsan Air Base, Republic of Korea and Cain Vice of Nisland; sisters, Glenda Cornella of Rapid City, Rena Leason of Del Rio, Tennessee, Marilyn Cornella of Belle Fourche and Lisa Cornella of Camp Crook; a granddaughter, Samantha Steele Vice and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wallis and Arlene Cornella.
Visitation will be 12 PM to 7 PM, Sunday, February 26th at Kline Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M, Monday, February 27th at Kline Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche with Reverend Andy Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at the Nisland Cemetery.
